The Future is Bright

Date: February 24, 2015

Having decided to redo the original Silhouette series, I changed my mind when I reached part three. The original third piece was never my favourite, so I decided to take the opportunity to replace it by something better.

Why All The Bombs – 2014

Date: November 13, 2014
Category: Stencils

“A wall is a very big weapon. It’s one of the nastiest things you can hit someone with.” ~ Banksy

The quote in this piece is from Banksy, arguably the most famous stencil artists in the world. I read it years ago and it stuck with me for a long time. After a while I decided I had to do something with it. I first did a few pieces with it in 2012, but I decided to revisit it, grab some paint brushes and see where it’d get me.

Going through several ideas, I finally settled for this one and got to work. In the end I made them in three colour-schemes: green, brown and blue. Painted on high quality 400gsm paper.

You Break My Heart

Date: June 12, 2011
Category: Stencils

One of my most popular pieces to date, it has been viewed by close to 20.000 people and has been featured on the deviantART frontpage. It was the first time I experimented with colour instead of going safe with only black and white paint. It was the first step towards pushing halftone stencils in a new direction. Along the way, I broke every single record in terms of detail, amount of work and the amount of time it took me to complete it. Click read more to see the unpainted stencil!

Streetlight Manifesto

Date: October 9, 2010
Category: Stencils

This piece is the only piece I’ve ever done that I did not fully design myself. It’s heavily based upon a promotional tour-poster for a Streetlight Manifesto, a New Jersey-based punk band. I loved it at first sight, but was disappointed when it turned out it wasn’t for sale. Seeing the possibilities to turn it into a stencil, I got to work and adjusted it so it would work while trying to keep the original design intact as much as possible.

Many of my pieces start with a quote that just sticks with me. Sometimes just for a few days, often for much longer before I start to transform it into a concept and some crude visuals. This one, however, went from quote to final piece in less than a week. At the time, the focus was mainly on composition, something I was playing around with a lot.
